A winning Sunday: portraits in bulldog beauty

More than a thousand people and hundreds of dogs — from as far away as Arizona and San Francisco — turned a Long Beach park into a bulldog wonderland this afternoon at Justin Rudd’s Fifth Annual Bulldog Beauty Contest. English bulldogs, French bulldogs, pugs and senior dogs competed in separate pageants, and the crowd was full of furry funny faces. The atmosphere was all smiles. We’ll link to contest results when they’re posted, for now Extreme Cuteness Alert: run the photo slideshow above at your own risk!

Update 02-17-09: Here are two great photos of the winning English Bulldog, Diablo, sent in by his proud family. Left, Diablo is crowned Most Beautiful English Bulldog, and right, event organizer Justin Rudd with Diablo! Click photos for a larger view.

I heard that there were two winners this year. The first announced winner was an Olde English Bulldog and the second was an English Bulldog…I don’t think that they should have taken it away from the Olde…he was the best there, ask anyone especially cause of his unique blue coat and his personality was to match!

Our English Bulldog “Diablo” won the competition!
He is a full English Bulldog. I think the best legs award was given to the Olde English bulldogge but there was no discrepancy with our award!!!!!

Thank you ,

Jenn and Dino

There’s something sick about a bulldog in pink taffeta, yet compelling too. This slide show is great, and your coverage of Seal Beach continues to shine.

No matter how many bulldogs the judges selected, the real winner in my book is SBD.

The Beauty Contest was a blast! We brought the whole family including our two English bullies Smokey Bear and Lola! Lola was beautiful in Tafetta and Smokey Bear sported a Chicago Bears Jersey (compliments of my Mother-in-Law). They will always be winners in our hearts! Thanks for the great event! Kuddos!

This was our first time attending the pageant with our English Bully Bridget. She did great! I’d love to see pictures of the winner, but I haven’t found any online yet… We had to leave before the winners were announced! Bridget was ready for a nap! Thanks Justin!

I felt the contest was quite unorganized although the event itself was fun. It was nice to see so many bullies at one time. My puppy is among the pictures in the slideshow. How can I get a copy of the photo?

Hi attendee — I loved the casual atmosphere of the contest and the sweet nature of the whole event. I had a great time shooting it, too.

I will contact you by e-mail about a photo of your pup!

Thanks for visiting Seal Beach Daily!

Although the first dog selected to win the bulldog contest was beautiful I have to say I agree with them giving the title to another dog. The first was mixed with bull mastiff and the contest was for English bulldogs.
