Nature nearby: Palos Verdes blues released

palos-verdes-blue-videoThis little blue endangered butterfly — a California native thought to be extinct in the 1980s — is making a tentative return to the “wilds” of the Palos Verdes penninsula today. The Palos Verdes Blue Butterfly has been helped along by the restoration of some of its habitat and by wildlife workers, who have been breeding the insects in captivity, according to NBC. See a nice video of a release at nbclosangeles.com. Thanks to SBD reader Sealfish for pointing us to this video — perfect for the first day of spring.

What a privilege to see butterfly’s set free back into native habitat where they can thrive!
