New Grand Prix parking for bikes, cars
Headed to our neighbor’s big race on the weekend of April 16-19? Long Beach invites you to cycle to the event. The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency’s Parking Operations Division announced today that they will be offering race-goers free “bike valet” services.
The city — with Bikestation Long Beach and Modern Parking — is creating free Bike Valet stations where cyclists can have their bikes parked securely within blocks of the Toyota Grand Prix entrances. The stations will be located at 222 East Broadway and 125 West 3rd Street, in downtown Long Beach. Bike Valet services will be available from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm.
This year, Long Beach is also offering online reservations for five auto parking in lots with convenient access to race activities [map]. Rates will be the same as those charged on race day — the website says $15 per day plus fees — but visitors who purchase their parking space online will be guaranteed a space in the lot selected, regardless of the time of their visit, according to a city news release. Seal Beach race fans are also nicely situated to use public transit to get to the show. Long Beach Transit’s Passport Shuttle A will be stopping at Marina Drive and Studebaker on race weekend (not at the usual the Alamitos Landing stop) and will travel to the race area via 2nd Street and Ocean Avenue. The everyday shuttle buses will be replaced by larger coaches for race weekend, according to Long Beach Transit. Regular fare is $1.10 each way. Get more info at lbtransit.com.
