Zeppelin buzz: Seal Beach gets a flyover
Yesterday, the Zeppelin Eureka made her way down the California coast, from her home near San Jose to her temporary berth at Long Beach Airport. This weekend, she’ll be touring the SoCal skies with a cabin full of lucky sightseers and, although most trips will head north from LB, at least one trip is expected over the Seal Beach/Huntington Beach area, according to the ocregister’s ScienceDude.
Keep looking up: If you spot Eureka and catch a pix of the the world’s largest airship, send it to SBD! We’d love to share it with Seal Beach and Southern California’s many Zeppelin fans. (Eureka’s owners, Airship Ventures, would like to see it too. If they like it, they’ll post it at their cool Sightings blog.) Here’s an assist for your Zeppelin hunt: a Google map that tracks her every move.
Catch a little Zeppelin fever: Newport Beach Twitter friend, journalist and SEO guru Danny Sullivan didn’t wait for Eureka to make it to Southern California to have an up close and personal encounter with the remarkable craft. He was in San Jose on business and stopped by Moffet Field to watch/video/photograph the Eureka take off for Long Beach. His blog posts on the takeoff, the airship’s visit and the OC history connection are sure to awaken the airship enthusiast in you. This is his video of the airship’s surprisingly swift takeoff.
Want even more Zeppelin? The OC Register held a Zeppelin fiction contest. Here’s the winning entry.
Want a ticket to ride? Tickets start at $375. Learn more at Airship Adventures.
Gotta have more Zepplin! Update 2:53 p.m.: Save Our Beach’s Kim Masoner writes us to say she (and about 70 second graders from Rowland Heights) spotted Eureka sailing over her First Street beach cleanup around noon!
And guess who was on board? Gary Robbins, the OC Register’s ScienceDude. He writes about it and shares his cool Zepplin-eye-view pix of Seal Beach here. Lucky Dude!
