Happening tonight: Concert at the beach

deanGrab a blanket and picnic dinner and head to the pier tonight as the Seal Beach Summer Concert Series kicks off with the Rockabilly sounds of Danny Dean and the Homewreckers.

The concert is 6 to 8 p.m. at Eisenhower Park. And it’s free.

The Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts the popular summer series and has expanded the line up this year from six to nine shows.

The concerts continue every Wednesday night until Sept. 2 with an eclectic mix of classic rock, blues, swing and folk bands.

“My family and I look forward to these summer concerts and look forward to seeing all the families in town enjoying the great bands that will be playing,” says Eric Lenahan, who will be sharing free popcorn in a booth at tonight’s show. Eric and LeAnna Ricci Farris of State Farm Insurance and Alan Brawer of Verizon FiOS are local sponsors of the summer series.

Here’s the complete concert schedule:

Tonight: Danny Dean and the Homewreckers. A 50’s style group.

July 15: The Kelly Fitzgerald Group. Steeped in rock, country and blues.

July 22: Hurricane Julie and the Aftermath. Classic rock from the ‘60s and ‘70s.

July 29: Sligo Rags. Contemporary and traditional Irish and folk-themed music.

August 5: Sin Twins Rhythm & Blues Revue. R & B group with a horn section.

August 12: Sugah Daddy. Eight-piece ensemble playing swing, boogie and blues.

August 19: Identity Theft. Relive the ‘80s.

August 26: Little Strange (formerly known as The Regular Guys). Funk-blues with original tunes.

Sept. 2: The Elm Street Band. Classic rock, playing tunes from the ‘60s to the ‘90s.

Thank you to Seal Beach Daily for keeping your finger on the pulse of what is happening in SB! It was a banner start to the Concert Series – the energy at the event was fabulous and hundreds (several estimates at over 600+) of people attended. Loved the fact that people also remembered to come early, stay late and shop and dine Seal Beach. This is going to be a great series over nine weeks and the Chamber is thrilled to move forward every Wednesday from now until September 2nd! So invite friends and family – remember “Seal Beach small town California feel, big time destination!”
