Base’s Relay for Life raises $82,500

More than 450 people walked the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training base Saturday and Sunday, raising $82,500 for cancer research during the annual Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Relay for Life. The Orange County Register posts a photo slide show here.

Today on the base: The public is invited to meet Major General John S. Harrel, the base’s new commander, at the Regional Military Affairs Committee meeting at 3:30 p.m. at 11200 Lexington Dr., building 15.

Update: The California Army National Guard’s 40th Infantry Division hosts a Commanding General Change of Command ceremony at the base at 11 a.m. on Friday for Maj. Gen. Harrel. “The ceremony is open to the public, and all representatives of veterans organizations are invited to attend,” says base spokeswoman Laura Herzog.
