Long Beach sewage spill closures lifted

From the Long Beach Health Department:

City Health Officer, Dr. Helene Calvet, announced today that the closures at Mother’s Beach, Marine Stadium and Colorado Lagoon … have been lifted.

Laboratory tests for Mother’s Beach and Colorado Lagoon received today were within State standards for the second consecutive day. The closure was ordered after an estimated 1,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the storm system [Sunday] from a private sewage line located approximately one-quarter mile from the Los Cerritos Channel, which leads to Mother’s Beach, Marine Stadium and Colorado Lagoon.

Water quality monitoring will continue … on a weekly basis. For more information, call the Department’s Water Quality Information Line, 562-570-4199, or visit www.longbeach.gov/health.
