Sunset merger threatens pot dispensary

The future of Sunset Beach’s medical marijuana dispensary is uncertain now that the beach town is poised to join either Seal Beach or Huntington Beach — cities that have banned marijuana dispensaries.

OC Register reporter Annie Burris says that the West County Patient Collective Association has 500 members and is located in a small white house overlooking a Huntington Harbour waterway. The dispensary opened June 5, according to her story.

It is unclear wither the Sunset Beach dispensary would be grandfathered in or eliminated during an annexation by either city.

“I think that the short answer is, I’m not sure,” said Seal Beach City Manager Dave Carmany. “We haven’t looked at the issue yet.”
