New SBD Book Lotto: The Wonder Years
On Labor Day weekend, Seal Beach Daily will be giving away an autographed copy of The Wonder Years; Portraits of Athletes Who Never Slow Down, my new book with photographer Rick Rickman.
The Wonder Years is a collection of portraits and stories featuring an extraordinary cast of aging adventurers and amateur athletes. You can meet some of them in this cool photo gallery featured at USA Today.
“Perhaps no one knows the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat better than athletes in their later years who are still at their game,” writes Carol Kaufmann at AARP Bulletin. “The aches and pains may be greater but so is the victory at the finish line. In their new book, The Wonder Years, photographer Rick Rickman and writer Donna Wares capture the spirit of the athletes, who are living proof that getting older doesn’t mean slowing down.”
Tonight, Rick and I are excited to be signing copies of The Wonder Years at opening night of the Aquadettes’ annual follies in Laguna Woods. The amazing Aquadettes will be joining us after their show.
On Sept. 24, we’ll be discussing The Wonder Years at Barnes and Noble Marina Pacific in Long Beach and the event also is a fundraiser for Project SEEK at McGaugh School in Seal Beach.
The Wonder Years was just named as a finalist in the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association’s 2009 Book Awards. You can read an excerpt at CaliforniaAuthors.com.
If you’d like to enter our latest SBD Book Lotto, please use our contact form to send us your name and e-mail address by Saturday, Sept 5 Sunday, Sept. 6. Put “WONDER YEARS” in the subject line. We’ll select a winner at random.
