On our Seal Beach Radar: Ribbon cuttings, hauntings, parading pups, safety reminder

320 celebrates its new ownership with an official ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. today and sends out this invitation via Twitter: “Come on down to our ribbon cutting today and try our new menu items! Apfel Cocktail, Braised Rolard & Neapolitan NY. mmm!” 320 Main.

haunt-dangeloGet creeped out for a cause: Seal Beach resident and interior designer Barbara D’Angelo is whipping up a haunting at Pelican Isle restaurant in Huntington Beach this weekend as part of Chimene and Robby Armstrong’s annual Halloween benefit for Children Today, a Long Beach-based non-profit organization that serves homeless children. D’Angelo’s haunted house will be open for families on Friday and Saturday and include seven eerie rooms. Admission is $5; prizes for kids. On Saturday after 8 p.m., adults can rock Halloween with the Bobby Armstrong Band at the Halloween Extravaganza Party. The $25 admission includes party and haunted house entry. Come costumed: the grand prize for the costume contest is a stay at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel. Get hours and more details at Children Today.

Dogs decked out: Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade is billed as the “largest pet parade in the world,” or at least in Belmont Shore. Get your dog registered for Saturday’s fun here.

Pirates of Seal Beach: The Orange County Register points us to a haunted pirate ship parked in the driveway of a College Park East home — and awaiting trick or treaters this Saturday. Check out the photos here.

Cold warrior: Seal Beach gets a rare visit this week from a warship, the 564-foot USNS Shasta. Science Dude Gary Robbins has the backstory.

Paddle out: Friends of surfer Chris Hawk are gathering in his memory Sunday on the north side of the Huntington Beach Pier, starting at 11 a.m. “If Chris Hawk ever shaped you a custom board or you just happen to have one of his surfboards in your quiver, then you’re encouraged to bring it to the paddle out and ride it!” writes Jeff Malanca at the
Beach Blog.

Fall back fire safety: The Orange County Fire Authority reminds us to change our smoke alarm batteries when we change your clocks this weekend. “An easy way to protect your family from fire,” @OFCA_PIO says on Twitter. More smoke alarm info.

TJs companion: The authors of Cooking with All Things Trader Joe’s have a new book, The Trader Joe’s Companion: A Portable Cookbook, a slim volume you can tuck in your purse. See it in the Seal Beach Daily bookstore.
