Launched in November 2008, SealBeachDaily.com was a hyper-local news website — created by professional journalists, serving our own community. Seal Beach Daily ceased regular updates on Nov. 30, 2009.
The Seal Beach Daily team included:
Donna Wares, editor and co-publisher. Donna is a writer, editor and college lecturer who has worked at the Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register. She is the editor of My California: Journeys by Great Writers and the author of Great Escapes: Southern California. Her new book, co-authored with photographer Rick Rickman, is The Wonder Years: Portraits of Athletes Who Never Slow Down (Chronicle Books, summer 2009). Donna has lived in Seal Beach since 1994.
Kate Cohen, producer and co-publisher. Kate is an artist, writer, and web developer, and she also is co-publisher, with Donna Wares, of californiaauthors.com. After working at newspapers — including the Orange County Register— Kate was a founding partner in Omnivore, an interactive design company. In 2000, she opened Kate Cohen Fine and Applied Arts, specializing in the complete production of beautifully crafted smaller-scale web sites, as well as the sale of her oil paintings and sculpture. Kate lives and works in Belmont Shore, which she has called home for 20 years.
Lani Beggs, advertising sales. Lani is a local businesswoman, freelance legal assistant and community volunteer. She has lived in Seal Beach for 20 years. You can usually find her at the beach, in the gym or on the baseball field.
Val Cohen, web engineer. Val has been designing and implementing publishing systems since the mid-1980s. He worked at the New Orleans Times-Picayune and The Orange County Register, and was a multimedia developer and technical director of a number of Internet properties including Hilton.com. He’s currently a software developer in corporate IT.
